Tor Books and 343 Industries have just announced the first title in a brand new Halo trilogy from Karen Traviss (Star Wars, Gears of War, and more).

Halo: Glasslands will follow up on the events of Halo: Ghosts of Onyx in the wake of the final events of Halo 3.

“Although Karen’s novel deals with the characters and events from Ghosts of Onyx, it’s the wonderful new characters and scenarios that she brings so vividly to life that will excite Halo fiction fans,” says Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director for 343 Industries. “We get an incredible opportunity to explore the Halo universe in the aftermath of the Covenant war, and unveil some mysteries and storylines that will connect readers to a compelling corner of the Halo universe. I can’t wait for readers to enjoy this book as much as we have.”

Halo: Glasslands will be released on October 25, 2011. A sequel to the first book in legendary science fiction author Greg Bear’s Halo Forerunner trilogy, Halo: Cryptum (read a free excerpt here) is also expected in 2012.

Man, I love Traviss’ stuff (her SW work and her original Wess’har Wars series) but I just haven’t been able to bring myself to pick up her GoW books yet. They’re on my wishlist, but even when I see them at Half Price Books, I’m unable to buy a book from a franchise I know and care nothing about. (Says the guy who just yesterday ordered a Magic: the Gathering novel simply because Matt Stover’s name is on it.) Someday I’ll check these out, though. Traviss is gold.

Ooh, I’m going to have to pick this up! Just re-read Fall of Reach a few weeks ago…the first 3 Halo books + Ghosts of Onyx are guilty pleasures for me(never did pick up the prequel books…). This is a must buy. I’ve never read any of Traviss before, so looking forward to reading her.

I’m about half way through Ghost of Onyx at the moment so it’s exciting to hear that these characters will be in another novel. I think TOR and 343 are doing a great job with Halo. I’m becoming more and more of a fan of the universe.
